Biden Appoints Economic Team

(Patria) – Newly elected US President Joe Biden plans to present his team of economic advisors on Tuesday, as his administration prepares to take over the cabinet amid the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Biden will appear at a public event in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, along with the newly appointed members of the advisory team, including the new Treasury Secretary, former Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen.

The careful selection of the economic team reflects Biden's stance on the need for a more aggressive approach to the pandemic problem. His advisors have consistently supported the proposal for government stimulus for employment, reducing economic inequalities, as well as assistance to women and minorities who are particularly vulnerable to the weakening economy.

The economic team of the new president will also include Cecilia Rouse, an economist from Princeton University who will lead the Council of Economic Advisers, then Heather Boushey and Jared Bernstein as council members, and Neera Tanden, head of the liberal Center for American Progress, who will head the Office of Management and Budget, Reuters reports.
