(Patria) - US President Joe Biden will visit Israel on Wednesday to discuss with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, announced Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Blinken said after lengthy talks with Netanyahu that Biden would reaffirm
solidarity with Israel, which is expected to launch a ground offensive in Gaza.
Israel has vowed to destroy Hamas after its fighters stormed into Israel on October 7, killing 1,300 people, mostly civilians, on the deadliest day in the country's 75-year history. Biden will make it clear that "Israel has the right and indeed the duty to defend its people from Hamas and other terrorists and to prevent future attacks," Blinken told reporters after hours of talks with the Israeli war cabinet in Tel Aviv, Reuters reported.
He said Israel would brief Biden on its war aims and strategy, and on how it would conduct operations "in a way that minimizes civilian casualties and allows humanitarian assistance to reach civilians in Gaza in a way that does not benefit Hamas".
The US and Israel have agreed to develop a plan to allow humanitarian aid from donor nations and multilateral organizations to reach civilians in Gaza, Blinken said.
