Biden: American democracy has been attacked

(Patria) - United States President Joe Biden addressed the public and warned that American democracy is under attack by election deniers competing for positions at all levels.

During his address, Biden also referred to the attack on the home of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, in which her husband, who was at home, was injured.

- He had plastic handcuffs, duct tape, rope, and a hammer in his backpack. He told the police that he came to look for Nancy Pelosi, to kidnap her and interrogate her, to threaten to break her knees - said Biden.

He emphasized that Pelosi is third in line among the highest officials of the United States.

- This intimidation, this violence against Democrats, Republicans, and non-partisan officials who are just doing their jobs, is the result of lies told for power and profit, lies of conspiracy and malice, lies that are constantly repeated to create a cycle of rage and hatred, and even violence - Biden stated.

He stressed that the US must face the truth, as the future of the American nation depends on it.

- American democracy has been attacked because a defeated former President of the United States refused to accept the results of the 2020 election - Biden said, adding that the former US president refuses to accept the will of the people and the fact that he lost.

Biden compared last week's break-in at Pelosi's home and the attack on her husband, who was at home, to the attack on the Capitol.

- The attacker entered the house asking: 'Where's Nancy? Where's Nancy?' These were the same words the mob used when they stormed the US Capitol on January 6th. We do not resolve our differences in America by riot, mob, bullet, or hammer. We resolve them peacefully at the ballot box. Much is at stake in these midterm elections, but something else is at stake: democracy itself - Biden said.

Otherwise, parliamentary elections will be held in the United States next Tuesday.
