Bosnian police increasingly engage Mountain Rescue Service in rescue operations

The police have recognized the Mountain Rescue Service of Bosnia and Herzegovina as an important partner in search and rescue operations for missing and injured persons in hard-to-reach areas, which is why they are increasingly engaging us in crisis situations, boasted the president of the GSS BiH, Zdenko Marić, writes Patria.

Marić is proud that his team can be of use to the police and citizens in the most difficult situations, and announced that GSS BiH will continue to professionalize its personnel to the highest world standards.

- This year we have had several demanding interventions, searches and rescue operations, as well as evacuations of injured persons – Marić recalls and lists:

- We searched for an elderly woman in Tjentište, a missing Italian priest in Međugorje, we searched for two lost children in Brčko, for a missing resident of Novo Sarajevo, for a drowning victim in Jablanica, we searched for an elderly woman in Gorenji Vakuf, our team pulled out a drowning victim in Grabovica on the Buna river, students in Bijela near Mostar...
Marić recalls that GSS BiH has trained personnel for analyzing mobile phone signal coverage of missing persons, organizing search operations, using communication equipment and digital cartography, search tactics... which can be of great use to the police.

GSS BiH is a member of the International Commission for Alpine Rescue ICAR and the European Association ECRA, writes NAP.
