Bosnian mountain Vranica is a true paradise for nature lovers

(Patria) - I have visited several very interesting places in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and recently I was hiking on Vranica, which is truly a paradise for every nature lover.

This is how traveling photographer Boris Trogrančić, who captures beautiful nature shots with his camera lens, begins his story.

This is the second time Boris has sent photos of Vranica, a mountain that is an eternal inspiration for hikers, travelers, and photographers, to the portal Punkufer.hr.

- First and foremost, this beauty is known for Prokoško Lake, which is located at 1,635 meters above sea level - a unique lake of glacial origin.

Vranica represents the geographical center of BiH and has a different structure and rock composition than the surrounding limestone-dolomite Bosnian mountains.

Several of its peaks exceed 2,000 meters above sea level. Vranica lies on a volcanic belt, and in the immediate vicinity is the long-extinct megavolcano Tethys.

The oldest geological deposits, dating back to the early Paleozoic era, have been identified in the mountain area - describes Trogrančić the beautiful mountain whose highest parts are vast mountain pastures, while the lower parts are abundant with forests.

During your walk, you can see berries like cranberries and blueberries, as well as endemic plants such as alpine rose, white bellflower, Bosnian bellflower, and Vranica's herb.

In addition, Vranica is home to the endemic amphibian, the newt.

- Since time immemorial, this mountain, due to its gentle pastures at high altitudes and abundant water in the high mountain areas, has been known for livestock farming and the production of excellent cheese.

It is also suitable for hiking, as the hiking trails vary from easy for beginners, through moderately difficult, to extremely difficult trails that overcome large differences in altitude in a short space, and are ideal for all those who want to keep their bodies in top condition.

As a hiker, I enjoy the views this mountain offers, and I discover something new every time. Few people are aware that the Vrbas River, which belongs to the Sava River basin, actually originates on Vranica. There are many other springs here, numerous waterfalls, as well as caves and pits.

Unfortunately, recently, I have increasingly witnessed the mass appearance of quads and cross-country motorcycles that are driven recklessly, even off-road, on the mountain, making noise, polluting the soil, and thus causing permanent and irreparable damage to nature.

They leave traces on the delicate mountain meadows that recover with great difficulty and over a long period. It would be much nicer if people visited the mountains only and exclusively on foot, so that they would remain untouched and be a world unto themselves, as they deserve - warns Trogrančić.
