The Press Council in BiH and the Association of Journalists of BiH strongly condemn the brutal attack by Hungarian police on the RTS crew, journalist Jovana Đurović, cameraman Vladan Hadži Mijailović and sound recordist Miroslav Đurašinović, while they were performing their professional task of reporting on the refugee crisis at the border between Serbia and Hungary, reports the Patria news agency.
Ignoring the fact that the crew had visible press identification, Hungarian police officers attacked them, beat them with batons and broke their equipment.
With this brutal act of violence against professional journalists, Hungarian police officers violated international conventions and human rights and freedom of reporting, and they must be held accountable for their actions.
Reporting by journalists on such important events is of global public interest, and no one should deny them the right to free information, let alone stop them in their work through physical violence.
The Press Council in BiH and the Association of Journalists of BiH call on the competent authorities to react and insist on the identification and punishment of the police officers who beat the journalists and destroyed the equipment, with the deliberate intention of preventing reporting on the unfortunate events at the Horgoš border crossing, states the press release of the Press Council and the Association of Journalists of BiH.
