Duty-free import of electric cars continues this year

(Patria) - The Council of Ministers of BiH has adopted a Decision on the temporary suspension and temporary reduction of customs duties on the import of new electric and hybrid cars until December 31, 2023, thus continuing the application of a previously adopted decision.

In July last year, the Council of Ministers of BiH, at the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, abolished customs duties on the import of electric cars into BiH and significantly reduced customs duties for the import of hybrid cars from 15% to 5%, with an expiry date until the end of last year. This applies to the import into BiH of newly manufactured cars that do not have preferential status of goods from countries with which BiH has concluded free trade agreements.

This measure is concrete financial support for citizens and the public and private sectors for the purchase and import of this type of car, with the aim of reducing air pollution, better environmental protection, and increasing traffic safety.

The increase in the import of electric and hybrid vehicles into BiH will enable the opening of new jobs at authorized dealers or service centers and an increase in investments in electric charging stations, which would positively affect the acceleration of the implementation of electric charging station projects, the preparation of which is underway.

The Council of Ministers of BiH wishes to contribute to decarbonization in this way, as one of the key pillars of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans in the fight against climate change.
