(Patria) – Swiss police began clearing demonstrators from a square near the parliament building in Bern early Wednesday morning after a group set up tents on Monday and refused to leave the site.
Video from state broadcaster SRF shows police officers facing the challenge of several demonstrators who chained themselves to objects such as bicycles and a metal fence, and the fire department was forced to use metal cutting tools.
Demonstrators from various environmental organizations set up a camp in the heart of Bern's political center on Monday to send a message that Switzerland must do much more to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2030.
