BELGRADE: Two children still in critical condition, injured teacher stable

(Patria) - Eight students (seven girls and one boy) and a security guard died in the shooting at "Vladislav Ribnikar" Elementary School in Vračar on Wednesday morning. Six students and the teacher who sustained gunshot wounds are in the Emergency Center, and at the clinic in Tiršova. The minor attacker and his parents have been arrested.

Director of the Clinical Center of Serbia, Dr. Milika Ašanin, said that three out of the four injured in the Emergency Center are doing quite well, are awake, and doctors are talking to them. These are two students and the teacher.

"As for the fourth patient, he arrived with severe, complex gunshot wounds to the chest, neck, and spine, and has undergone two surgeries. He is better, awake, but we must be very careful and qualify his condition as critical. Today, we will have a series of control examinations and scans to see the effects of the surgeries," said Dr. Ašanin.

Director of Tiršova, Dr. Siniša Dučić, said that two boys with gunshot wounds to the legs admitted to that institution are stable, while a girl who underwent emergency surgery for a head injury is vitally endangered and in critical condition.

"Doctors are doing everything to keep her alive, but her general condition is very difficult and she is vitally endangered. No new surgeries are planned for now," said Dr. Dučić.
