Belize breaks off diplomatic relations with Israel

(Patria) - Belize announced today that it is breaking off diplomatic relations with Israel due to its offensive in the Gaza Strip.

"The Government of Belize is withdrawing the accreditation of the Israeli ambassador in Belmopan and suspending all activities of its representative in Israel", announced the authorities there, stating that the decision takes effect "immediately".

The small Central American country thus became the second Latin American country to break off relations with Israel, after Bolivia did so on November 1st.

Colombia, Chile, and Honduras, on the other hand, recalled their ambassadors to Israel for consultations.

Belize opposes the deaths of "innocent civilians" in Gaza, where according to data from the health ministry controlled by Hamas, 11,300 people have been killed, including 4,650 children.
