Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize has agreed to sell its 39 MAXI supermarkets in BiH to Tropic Group B.V., owned by Mirko Risović from Banja Luka, due to its withdrawal from this part of the Southeast European market. The value of this investment is unknown.
Incidentally, in 2011, Delhaize bought Serbian Delta Maxi, owned by Miroslav Mišković, and in 2010, Delta Maxi bought the "Tropic" chain of markets for 70 million KM. The buyer committed to retaining the operations and all 700 employees in Banja Luka, Novi Grad, Prijedor, Jajce, Doboj, Bijeljina, and Prnjavor.
Mirko Risović stated at the time that the retail part of "Tropic" was sold after five years of negotiations, but the real estate remained the property of the Risović family. This now means that the facilities sold in 2010 are once again owned by Risović.
Delhaize stated that they will not sell their chains in other countries such as Romania and Indonesia for now. Delhaize recently sold 54 supermarkets in Bulgaria, as well as in Albania and Montenegro.
