Bećirović: The time of wars is behind us, the strategic goal is NATO membership

(Patria) - The North Atlantic Council (NAC), led by NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană, is on a two-day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The first meeting was held at the BiH Presidency. After the meeting, a member of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, addressed the public. He said he was very encouraged because today it was unequivocally stated that they stand firmly behind BiH and its independence and territorial integrity.

After the meeting, Bećirović also stated that the NAC strongly condemned any calls for secession. At this meeting, he outlined BiH's strategic goals, which are full membership in the NATO alliance and the EU.

“BiH is committed to membership. This is a decision of the state bodies in BiH. The legal framework is clear, and the state bodies have adopted all documents in the field of security. The time of wars is irrevocably behind us, and we are coming under the security umbrella of the largest alliance in the world. This is in the interest of every citizen,” said Bećirović.

In BiH, we have evident pro-Russian politicians, Bećirović adds, who threaten our peace in the country and the region.

“The interview for Russia Today, in which the president of Republika Srpska spoke and said that ‘Vladimir Putin is a great humanist’ and that ‘Russia had every right to attack Ukraine,’ is evidence of this. This was not said by a politician from Moscow. NATO has clearly sent us a message today – the security of BiH is also our NATO interest, because our country belongs to Euro-Atlantic integration,” said Bećirović, emphasizing that “BiH today received greater support than we have ever had, and that is encouraging”.

Bećirović also said that the arrival of Assistant Secretary of State James O’Brien is a very important message and that it is not a coincidence.

“Tomorrow we will have that meeting. I think it is a very important message to everyone in BiH and the region. The US is an unconditional friend of BiH, they provide us with full support, and this cooperation is very important for BiH,” Bećirović concluded, reports N1.
