Bećirović: NATO accession must be BiH's priority

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Candidate for the BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović, appearing on FACE TV, stated that he is convinced of his electoral victory.

Bećirović emphasized that he is the only one among all candidates who, in cooperation with numerous professors and intellectuals, has created a program that is in line with the Presidency's powers.

Bećirović stressed that NATO accession must be BiH's first goal.

- All Southeast European countries joined NATO first, and I think this is a good path for us too, because Article 5 of the NATO treaty states that an attack on one member state is an attack on all member states. This will be a clear signal that this country will never be attacked again – said Bećirović.

He once again reminded that the current BiH Presidency removed NATO accession from the Foreign Policy Strategy as a strategic foreign policy goal of BiH in March this year, and that he will change this when he joins the Presidency.

- A huge number of citizens stand behind me, seven different political parties stand behind me, then 34 political parties from the EU, 140 political parties from the Socialist International, hundreds of civic organizations, and that is my strength – stated Bećirović.

Bećirović also explained why he chose the slogan “One president for all of us” in his campaign.

- My candidacy is supported not only by Bosniaks but also by a huge number of Serbs, Croats, Roma, Jews, then the majority of the former wartime Presidency of BiH, and that is why my slogan is “One president for all of us” – explained Bećirović.

Bećirović said that during the election campaign, he never mentioned his opponents in a negative context, and that after October 7th, he will be available to citizens for all questions.

- My goal is not only to defeat the candidates from the Bosniak people, but my goal is also to win the most votes overall, in order to be the Chairman ahead of Milorad Dodik, so that I can go out into the world and tell people that the majority, patriotic BiH has won – stated Bećirović.

He also added that it is outrageous to conduct a campaign with public money and put up numerous posters across the country at a time when soup kitchens are being opened en masse.

Bećirović warned of a possible rift among Bosniaks after the elections, and emphasized that it is necessary to elect a person supported by several political parties instead of candidates who have not even received majority support within their own party.
