Bećirović: Propaganda in Republika Srpska, measures for healthcare and economy in the Federation

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The very structure of BiH is asymmetrical, and when I analyze the measures initiated by the entities, we see that they are absolutely asymmetrical measures, and RS has even adopted Serbia's measures, although we must know that Dodik is not Vučić, and RS is not Serbia, said the director of the IFIMES Institute, Zijad Bećirović, in a special BHT show "Coronavirus in BiH".

He added that Milorad Dodik claims he will ensure Russia helps the FBiH, and then asks for 10,000 masks.

"In all of this, we see a PR reaction that international aid is coming, that something is constantly being received... It is an unserious approach. In RS, the measures are delayed and incomplete, while in the Federation, measures have been taken to protect the health of the population and the economy. The distribution of IMF funds shows that the situation in RS is indeed difficult and that they received more money than before," Bećirović states.

The situation in RS is difficult, and citizens and politicians should show solidarity towards RS.

"The factual situation is that three-quarters of economic flows occur in FBiH, and one-third in RS. We should act accordingly, not create a false image for the media. Asymmetry and lack of coordination, along with the weak activity of the Council of Ministers, which could eliminate asymmetry if it took control, prove that decisions in BiH are made asymmetrically," emphasizes Bećirović.

When asked about what can be expected after the pandemic, Bećirović says that it is important to establish oversight mechanisms, because in a state of emergency and with emergency measures, democratic oversight of institutions is lost.

"Individuals in such situations seize privileges, primarily money. The media and civil society can play a big role here, because there is no progress without critical thinking and oversight. It is important for BiH to show a democratic environment, which was already disrupted in normal circumstances," concluded Bećirović.
