Bećirović discusses political and security situation in BiH and the region with US senators

(Patria) - BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović met today in Washington with US Senators Thom Tillis, Jeanne Shaheen, and Jeff Merkley.

During a substantive meeting, they discussed the current political and security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, as well as strengthening bilateral relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the USA.

Bećirović thanked Senators Tillis, Shaheen, and Merkley for the strong and continuous support of the USA to Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing that the partnership between the two friendly countries is an important factor of stability and security in our country, as well as in the region.

He stressed that the USA is a strategic partner and that it is extremely important for Bosnia and Herzegovina to continue strengthening overall ties with the most powerful country in the world.

The BiH Presidency member specifically pointed out the importance of the Southern Gas Interconnection project, which represents one of the key infrastructure projects for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He stated that this project is of exceptional importance for strengthening the country's energy security and diversifying natural gas supply sources.



- The Southern Gas Interconnection increases the strategic importance of Bosnia and Herzegovina in regional energy projects and contributes to the overall stability of the energy network in Southeast Europe.

It is very important that US officials have made it known that they support this strategic project - said Bećirović.

He also pointed out that certain lobbyists, contrary to all facts, are trying to impose false narratives about Bosnia and Herzegovina. They are trying to deliberately reduce Bosniaks to a religious group and portray them as a threat.

- This is dangerous propaganda that led to genocide against Bosniaks in the 1990s. That is why it is important to explain the motives and dangers of this propaganda in the USA and other important countries - added Bećirović.

The senators emphasized that the USA remains a strong partner and friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina. They confirmed the USA's commitment to continue providing support to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and strengthening the rule of law, peace, and stability.

They also emphasized the USA's commitment to protecting the constitutional order, independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
