Bećirović received Ukrainian Ambassador to BiH Vasil Kirilič in farewell visit

(Patria) - Member of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović received the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bosnia and Herzegovina - non-resident from the Republic of Croatia - Vasil Kirilič in a farewell visit.

At the beginning of the meeting, Bećirović pointed to the very good and constructive cooperation with Ambassador Kirilič, assessing that his diplomatic mission has further contributed to strengthening bilateral relations between BiH and Ukraine.

He reiterated Bosnia and Herzegovina's continuous support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter.

He particularly emphasized that since the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina has regularly joined EU statements, initiatives, and decisions condemning the aggression in international organizations.

He expressed hope that the initiated negotiations will result in the cessation of the war and the establishment of a just peace as soon as possible.

Ambassador Kirilič thanked for the consistent and open support of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the fight for Ukraine's freedom, emphasizing that this support has special value because it comes from a people who have gone through similar suffering.

He particularly thanked Bećirović for his statesmanlike and principled foreign policy activities and emphasized that such a policy is recognized in broader international frameworks.

During the conversation, Bećirović reminded that he has spoken with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy five times so far, and particularly mentioned the conversation he had with him during his visit to Kyiv in August 2023, together with the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić.

The visit represented, among other things, a clear confirmation of Bosnia and Herzegovina's solidarity with the Ukrainian people and the state fighting to preserve its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

The interlocutors agreed that it is very important to continue strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two countries in the coming period.
