Bećirović: Returnees in RS exposed to systemic discrimination, find attackers of spouses Memišević

(Patria) - BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović most sharply condemned the attack on Bosniak returnees in the settlement of Omeragići in the municipality of Višegrad and called on the authorities of the BiH entity RS to urgently conduct an investigation, identify, prosecute, and punish the perpetrators.

“I most sharply condemn the cowardly act of attacking returnees Ajša and Fadil Memišević, who were physically attacked and beaten by several individuals in the returnee settlement of Omeragići in the municipality of Višegrad. The authorities of the BiH entity RS and the municipality of Višegrad must react urgently, find and apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous attack carried out at the beginning of the month of Ramadan. I call on the competent authorities to take all legally prescribed measures in the shortest possible time and inform the public about the motives for the attack on the Memišević family. A swift and effective police action and sanctions are necessary to restore a sense of security among returnees, who are daily exposed to systemic discrimination and denial of basic human rights.

Bosniak returnees, like all people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, must enjoy freedom, security, and basic human rights. It is the obligation of the competent authorities to ensure this, and of political officials in the RS entity to avoid rhetoric and actions that undermine security and stability,” stated Bećirović.
