Bećirović: After the British Resolution, something will follow that the official Kremlin will not like

I expect that Great Britain will not allow a farce and substantial changes to the content of the initially proposed Resolution on Srebrenica, said Zijad Bećirović, director of the International Institute for Middle Eastern and Balkan Studies (IFIMES) in Ljubljana, for the news agency Patria, commenting on the fact that the Resolution on Srebrenica submitted by Great Britain to the UN Security Council bothered the Serbian side.

Bećirović reminded that there is already a resolution of the European Parliament (EP) from 2009 regarding the confirmation and recognition of genocide in Srebrenica, i.e., the confirmation of what the international courts ICTY and ICJ established in their judgments.

In Bećirović's opinion, this is sufficient and acceptable within international frameworks, although the British Resolution in its initially proposed content would only confirm the already stated facts.

Russia also opposed the British resolution, proposing a completely different draft Resolution on Srebrenica, which does not condemn the genocide in Srebrenica, but condemns all crimes committed in the former Yugoslavia.

Serbian media reported that the Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, was presented today with a new, amended version of the British Resolution on Srebrenica, which also includes some elements of the Russian Resolution.

- It is obvious that something will follow the British Resolution that the official Kremlin will not like - Bećirović explains.

- The British resolution undermines Russia's global interests in the Balkans and strengthens the British-German initiative. The range of political actions that could follow the adoption of the British resolution is wide. It is actually the Russians who instigated Serbia's reaction, and Serbia has once again allowed the Russians to drag it into global confrontations with the West. No one is talking about this, and now it appears in public that Serbia is opposing something, and then the President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolić, is pushing Mladen Ivanić, the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to oppose it, and Ivanić as if he doesn't want to, and so on indefinitely.

Politically transparent and extremely dangerous for the interests of Serbia, as well as for the Dodik oligarchy in Republika Srpska (RS).

Bećirović adds that things are quite clear when it comes to opposing the British resolution. For him, Russia has used its players, Milorad Dodik and Tomislav Nikolić, to make political excursions and oppose the West in realizing its interests, and the Russian resolution is just a political pamphlet, which is exclusively a reaction to what will follow in BiH after the adoption of the British resolution in the UN Security Council.
