Bećirović on White Armband Day: We will never forget the murdered citizens of Prijedor, including 102 children

(Patria) - BiH Presidency member Denis Bećirović, on the occasion of White Armband Day, sent a message to the public:

"Today, May 31, 2023, we remember another sad date in our history. We are marking White Armband Day and paying tribute to the 3,176 murdered citizens of Prijedor, including 102 children. These innocent human lives were extinguished in the most brutal way possible.

We must spread the truth about this war crime. We will never forget the civilizational injustice and the fact that non-Serb residents in the Prijedor and Kozarac areas were ordered to wear white armbands, and to hang white sheets on their houses and apartments.

It was the beginning of a campaign of ethnic cleansing and crimes against the Bosniaks of Prijedor. Torture and executions followed in the Omarska, Trnopolje, and Keraterm concentration camps, through which thousands of people passed. After more than 30 years, the families of the murdered and the victims are not seeking revenge. They are seeking justice, punishment for those responsible and perpetrators of the crimes, but also to stop those who deny remembrance and who
try to obstruct those who cultivate a culture of remembrance. We will oppose such policies and ideologies even more decisively.

To the families of the victims, I express my deepest condolences, and to the murdered, I wish them light Bosnian soil and eternal peace," Bećirović stated.
