Bećirović-Fajon: BiH's path to EU and NATO membership is worryingly slow

SARAJEVO; (Patria) - Slovenian Member of the European Parliament and a strong advocate for Bosnia and Herzegovina's stronger path to European Union membership, Tanja Fajon, spoke with candidate for the Presidency of BiH, Denis Bećirović, about the current situation in our country, with a special focus on the path of BiH towards membership in Euro-Atlantic integrations so far.

It was jointly stated that the process of our country's approximation to EU and NATO membership is worryingly slow, and that the reform and all other pro-European agendas have not yielded the announced results.

It was particularly assessed negatively that there is no discernible strong desire to work on accelerating this path and that, instead of synergy, new divisions and quarrels are being reignited. It was also said at the meeting that the citizens of BiH are very much feeling the consequences of such a situation, because by not fulfilling the conditions, they cannot even feel the benefits of favorable development funds offered by the EU.

Candidate for the Presidency of BiH, Denis Bećirović, emphasized that Euro-Atlantic integrations are the basis of the policy he wants to promote and actively pursue in the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Integrations and the prosperity they bring, he added, must be the foundation of the work of the Presidency of BiH, and there can be no bargaining around this, as it concerns a state interest that must be above any individual, group, or party interest. 

Bećirović expressed satisfaction with the fact that he is meeting with an MEP who shares similar views and who, like the Republic of Slovenia from which she comes, continuously supports the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina in its efforts to become part of the EU and NATO.

During the conversation, Fajon welcomed the policy of integration and emphasized that she will continue to support the path of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina towards full membership in the Euro-Atlantic family.
