(Patria) - One of the most striking moments of the Chinese military parade occurred before the first ceremonial cannon shot was fired.
President Xi Jinping welcomed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un with a long handshake, and then greeted Russian President Vladimir Putin. The three leaders then proceeded together towards the stands to watch the parade, BBC reports.
It was the first time Xi, Putin, and Kim had been seen in public together, at a time when they knew the world would be watching. Trump's reaction to their gathering showed that it was not only the military power that China displayed that attracted attention, but also the political theater that accompanied the event.
