US President Barack Obama held a fiery speech in North Carolina in which he made a strong appeal to voters to support Hillary Clinton's campaign. In his address, Obama praised the character of the former Secretary of State, to whom hope returned after the FBI concluded the "email case" investigation in her favor, writes AFP, reports NAP.
- I am here because I believe in Hillary Clinton, Obama told the crowd at a rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, raising his fist and leading the chant "Hillary! Hillary!".
- Never before has there been a candidate as qualified as she is, never, Obama emphasized.
However, although he once again showed his speaking and communication skills, which are usually his trademark, Obama's intervention in the presidential campaign was overshadowed by an extraordinary announcement a few hours earlier in Washington.
The FBI's assessment, which stated that Clinton was "extremely careless" because she sent confidential information via her personal email, was far from the complete absolution that the former secretary had hoped for during her Democratic campaign against Republican rival Donald Trump.
Clinton and Obama traveled together to North Carolina for a rally they hoped would energize voters, especially minorities who are still strong supporters of the outgoing president.
Neither of them mentioned the FBI's decision to recommend to the Department of Justice not to file criminal charges against Clinton for clumsy electronic communication.
FBI Director James Comey said that after an exhaustive review conducted without political bias, investigators found no evidence of "intentional mishandling" by Clinton or her close associates, but that Clinton and her team were "extremely careless in handling extremely sensitive, highly classified information".
Hillary Clinton's spokesperson Brian Fallon said the campaign was "pleased" with the FBI's recommendation.
The FBI director's conclusion that Clinton sent and received information that was considered confidential, and in some cases secret, contradicts her repeated statement that she never sent information via her personal email or home server.
Although legally "lighter" than a lawsuit would have been, Comey's conclusion is far from the "all clear" that Hillary had hoped for.
And the FBI's conclusion about the lack of caution only inspired Trump to continue talking about how the Clintons have been operating "above the law" for years.
- She is guilty, and as it turns out, we won't blame her. It's truly unbelievable, Trump said in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he held a campaign rally.
- Today we saw the best evidence that our system is absolutely, totally rigged, Trump said, adding that Clinton is "laughing at the stupidity of our system".
With only 3 weeks left until the Democratic convention when the party will formally confirm Clinton as the presidential candidate, other Republicans are also using the "email case" to point out her alleged lack of reliability to voters.
- Based on the director's statement, it seems that damage is being done to the rule of law itself, said high-ranking Republican Paul Ryan.
The former first lady recently became the subject of attacks again when it was revealed that her husband Bill had a brief meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch at an airport in Arizona last week, which led Republicans to react due to suspicions of possible government interference in the investigation.
Meanwhile, Clinton continued her campaign, appearing with Obama at a campaign rally.
The president's approval rating is higher than ever, and he can still participate in the Democratic campaign, which is crucial for Clinton, whose popularity has greatly declined, as has Trump's.
In his addresses, Obama described the provocative billionaire Trump as unproven, impatient, and pompous, without the adequate temperament for the Oval Office, writes AFP.
