Balta: Results of swab analyses from Central Kitchen employees on Monday

Results of analyses of swabs and stool samples taken from employees of the Central Kitchen of JU „Djeca Sarajeva“, conducted by the KS Public Health Institute, will be known on Monday, May 11, 2015, said Snježana Balta, director of ZZJZKS, for the BH news agency Patria.

- Microbiological analysis is not yet complete because the procedure takes time, and the results will be known on Monday afternoon – Balta told NAP.

She has already informed the Sanitary Inspection within the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs of KS, which will determine, based on the findings, whether to open the Central Kitchen in Mojmilo or to continue its closure.

We remind you that the mass poisoning of children from Sarajevo kindergartens was caused by salmonella found in pasta with eggs and sour cream and spinach that the children ate on April 20 and 21. The first 15 children reported to KCUS on Wednesday, April 22, and in the following days, a total of 217 children reported to KCUS, with 55 being admitted.

The Central Kitchen in Mojmilo was closed on April 24, as was the Lastavica kindergarten, from which as many as 69 children reported to KCUS. Since then, the children have been on a dry diet, and parental dissatisfaction with this situation has been growing day by day. The parents of the poisoned children have launched a petition for the dismissal of the director of JU Djeca Sarajeva, Mirjana Jovanović – Halilović, and they will also seek criminal responsibility.

The inspection also issued a Decision prohibiting the trading of food of animal origin for the company “Gold mignon”, the food supplier for JU “Djeca Sarajeva”. Namely, as determined during the inspection, this company is not registered for the storage and distribution of products of animal origin.

As confirmed to the Patria agency yesterday by KUIP, sanitary inspectors are continuing comprehensive inspection supervision of all kindergartens of JU „Djeca Sarajeva“.

- We expect the control process to be completed by the end of this month. Given that the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton has also become involved in the poisoning case of the children from JU “Djeca Sarajeva”, all documentation related to this case, held by the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs of KS, is being submitted to that body for competent proceedings – said KUIP.
