Balijagić: Brčko District Prosecutor's Office called the aggression a civil war!

In the Brčko District Prosecutor's Office, the acting prosecutor questioned Mensur Peljto, suspected of war crimes, confirmed Faruk Balijagić, Peljto's lawyer, for the BH news agency Patria. He added that Peljto is still in custody at the prosecutor's request, and they should know tomorrow whether the prosecutor will request detention or if Peljto will defend himself from freedom.

From the practice so far with security measures, detention should not be requested unless there is a strong political motivation before the elections and during the month of Ramadan for Peljto to be in custody. Those are then other, not legal, motives. The motives are absolutely of another nature, and I believe that the Brčko District Prosecutor's Office is managed by the Serbian intelligence service from Belgrade – says Balijagić.

As further confirmed, the indictment states that Peljto is accused of slapping Chetnik soldiers and insulting their Vidovdan.

– I am stunned by everything I have seen, given my experience. I cannot believe that despite final international judgments that state there was aggression in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Brčko District Prosecutor's Office, in its request for an investigation against Mensur Peljto, states that it was a civil war – states Balijagić.

The lawyer is also appalled by the fact that Peljto is being charged as a war criminal for captured Chetnik soldiers and for slaps that caused them emotional distress.

– And even if all that is true, it is bizarre to conduct an investigation for that crime after 23 years, and not have imprisoned and convicted people who blew up the Sava Bridge with 982 people killed, and for nine dukes who walk around Brčko and are responsible for the deaths of nearly 7,000 non-Serbs in the Luka camp in Brčko to go unpunished – added Balijagić, emphasizing that prosecutor Zekerijah Mujkanović clearly does not care.

Otherwise, as Balijagić further stated, the Prosecutor's Office is most interested in how Mensur Peljto managed to save civilians from his local community and how he managed to break through to the free territory in Gornji Rahić.
