Balijagić fled to Croatia, Prosecutor's Office will seek an international warrant

The Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton has been informed by the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo that the accused Faruk Balijagić changed his residence, although the court was previously aware that he had a residence in Croatia, and according to the defense attorney, due to medical treatment, it was announced from the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton, reports the news agency Patria.

We recall that the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton, as early as December 14, 2015, along with the indictment which the court confirmed, also submitted a proposal for the extension of the detention measure against the accused Balijagić. However, the court by its decision lifted the detention and released the accused. After an appeal by this prosecutor's office, the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina annulled such a court decision as unlawful on January 14, 2016. Despite three urgings by this prosecutor's office, the Cantonal Court did not make a decision on detention.

Therefore, this prosecutor's office concludes that due to the lack of diligence of the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo, the accused Faruk Balijagić fled to Croatia. The Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton will submit a proposal for ordering detention on this basis as well, because the accused Faruk Balijagić is on the run, and will also request the issuance of an international warrant, the statement said.

Balijagić has Croatian citizenship, as well as certain properties in the neighboring country.
