Bajrović: Energy sector opens up investment opportunities

Federal Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry Reuf Bajrović attended the opening of the Energy Summit in Neum today, organized by USAID under the auspices of the State Regulatory Commission for Electricity, the Regulatory Commission for Energy of Republika Srpska, and the Regulatory Commission for Energy in the Federation of BiH, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Minister Bajrović, speaking at the Summit, emphasized that such projects are welcome in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and expressed hope that they will find fertile ground in connecting people with innovative ideas, as well as in exchanging experiences in the context of implementing project solutions, of which there is certainly no shortage in our country.

Bajrović pointed out that the adopted set of energy laws, as well as those in the final stage of adoption, have created a prerequisite for a strategic approach and the establishment of priorities in implementing reforms in the energy sector, which are also aimed at fulfilling international obligations and commitments defined through international agreements and treaties.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is clearly oriented towards EU integration, emphasized Minister Bajrović, and is thus ready to accept all achievements and the legal acquis of the European Union in the field of energy, which has largely been guided by the signing of the Treaty on the Establishment of the Energy Community of Southeast Europe, through which BiH has taken some very important steps in adapting its energy system and market mechanisms to international requirements.

Bajrović concluded by emphasizing that the potentials of Bosnia and Herzegovina are evident and open up numerous investment opportunities in the field of renewable energy sources, i.e., wind energy, biomass, and hydropower. Available data indicate that the energy intensity in the Federation of BiH is significantly higher than the world and European average, and that this is one of the indicators that there is great potential for improvement and energy efficiency in BiH, which this ministry is counting on.

As part of the Energy Summit, Minister Bajrović also held his first working meeting with members of the Regulatory Commission for Energy in FBiH, President Đulizara Hadžimustafić, and members Risto Mandrapa and Sanel Pokrajčić.

At the meeting, he stated that the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry will strive to improve the, until now, good cooperation with FERK in the coming period, and in accordance with the law, actively participate in the realization of plans in the energy sector for the benefit of all peoples and citizens of both the Federation and the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was announced from this ministry.
