(Patria) - Throwing a bomb at the house where my family and I live will not discourage me from continuing the processes we promised to the people, said the Mayor of Old Town Irfan Čengić, after an explosive device was thrown at his house last night.
"Last night, an explosive device was thrown at my house before sehri, with the aim of intimidating me, so that I would stop the processes of returning state property to the people from those who have been usurping it for years.
This is a continuation of the threats I have received as an elected official to stop enforcing laws, decisions, audit findings, inspector reports, and prosecutor's office rulings so that they can continue to misuse municipal resources.
Recently, representatives of embassies asked me if I was afraid to lead these processes, my answer to them was the same as today. God and the people have given me the trust to lead difficult processes, I will not back down an inch, because if the leader of the community withdraws under pressure, what can ordinary people expect tomorrow when they come to their doors.
We thought that last week's bomb thrown in the street where councilor Vedad Deljković's family lives was just a coincidence, but after last night's, it is clear to us that this is systematic intimidation.
I have full confidence in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton and the Federal Police Administration, and I call on the prosecutor's offices to continue processes against organized crime," said Čengić.
