Action Plan for the Use of Renewable Energy Sources Updated

MOSTAR, (Patria) - The Government of the Federation of BiH, at today's session in Mostar, adopted an updated Action Plan for the Use of Renewable Energy Sources in the Federation of BiH (APOEF).

The reasons for the update are, on the one hand, the filling of dynamic quotas for facilities using solar energy, and the absence of dynamic quotas for facilities using biogas, and on the other hand, the investors' requests to obtain the status of privileged and potentially privileged producers who have already built or are building facilities for electricity generation from renewable energy sources (RES), which particularly applies to facilities using solar energy.

Currently, there is a significant interest in the Federation of BiH in building facilities for electricity generation that use renewable sources as their primary fuel.

As explained, by June 30, 2018, the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry received 411 requests for energy permits for facilities using RES, of which 371 energy permits were issued, and a total of 187 facilities were built.

The APOEF sets indicative targets for the share of energy from renewable sources by 2020 in the total final consumption in the heating and cooling, electricity, and transport sectors.

The share of renewable energy sources in 2020 will be 44 percent in the electricity sector, 49 percent in the heating and cooling energy sector, and ten percent in transport.

All these individual targets will enable the fulfillment of the overall goal, but they do not represent fixed targets for each sector individually.

These sector-specific targets can be changed and increased if there are opportunities for faster development of certain sectors compared to others.
