Azerbaijan refuses to participate in meeting with Armenia, France, Germany and EU, as Turkey is not at the table

(Patria) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev refused to participate in a meeting with the leaders of Armenia, France, Germany and the European Council, which was supposed to be held in the Spanish city of Granada on October 5, the Azerbaijani news agency APA reported.

"Azerbaijan has refused to participate in a five-party meeting planned to be held in Granada, Spain on October 5," the report stated.

According to the report, Azerbaijan proposed inviting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the talks, but Paris and Berlin opposed this idea. The report cited this disagreement as one of the reasons for the meeting's cancellation, Tass news agency reported.

Another reason, according to the news agency, was the recent pro-Armenian statements by France and
European Council President Charles Michel. Azerbaijan, for example, pointed to France's plans to supply weapons to Armenia.

Furthermore, it is stated that Baku feels compelled to discuss regional issues with countries located far from the Caucasus. The news agency suggests that Azerbaijan could instead participate in a trilateral meeting involving Armenia and the EU.

"No format in which France participates is acceptable to Azerbaijan. Baku will not
attend such a platform," the report stated.

The meeting was planned to be held on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit. Leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia had previously met on the sidelines of the European Political Community summits in Prague and Chisinau.

The meeting in Prague was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron and Charles Michel. France, Germany, and the EU participated in the talks in Chisinau.
