Lufthansa plane makes emergency landing in Budapest due to bird strike

(Patria) - A Lufthansa plane en route from Munich to Cluj, Romania, had to make an emergency landing in Budapest yesterday due to a bird strike.

The Airbus A320 hit a bird shortly after takeoff, and the crew decided to abort the flight and divert the plane to the "Liszt Ferenc" airport in the Hungarian capital, confirmed Katalin Valentínyi, deputy general manager of the Budapest airport, Bild reports.

According to information from the newspaper "Merkur", there were 93 passengers on board at the time.

The landing went smoothly and the plane touched down safely. There were no injuries, and the safety of passengers and crew was not compromised at any point.

The plane was then routinely inspected for possible damage to the engines and exterior.

Bird strikes in air traffic occur occasionally, but thanks to intensive pilot training and strict safety protocols, they are considered well-controlled.
