(Patria) - A traffic accident occurred on the main Sarajevo road around 6:15 PM.
For reasons yet to be determined, a car coming from the direction of the city veered onto the tram tracks in the Pofalići area, hit a concrete billboard structure, and then ended up on the opposite carriageway near the Orthodox church and Third Gymnasium.
Several police teams are on the scene, and traffic has been completely stopped. Tram traffic was also interrupted but resumed after half an hour.
The car sustained significant material damage, and the driver and another person were taken away by ambulance. The car has foreign license plates.
Debris and glass fragments remain on the main road, so the traffic blockade could last for hours until the investigation is completed. Police are redirecting traffic from Socijalno via alternative routes towards Pofalići.
Eyewitnesses we encountered at the scene stated that the vehicle was not moving at high speed, but that a kind of explosion was heard first, after which the car swerved onto the tram tracks, hit a billboard, and ended up on the opposite carriageway.
Tragedy was narrowly avoided because there were no cars or pedestrians at the spot where the vehicle hit, thus avoiding more serious consequences.
