Car plows into crowd in New Orleans, multiple dead and injured, attacker shoots two police officers

(Patria) - In New Orleans, a car plowed into a crowd of people, and according to reports, there are multiple dead and injured.

The incident occurred on Bourbon Street during New Year's celebrations around 3:15 a.m. local time. This street is known for its numerous bars and clubs.

According to initial reports, 10 people were killed, while 30 were injured. The street has been closed, and all emergency services are on the scene.

Local officials held a press conference about the incident that shook the city this morning. A man drove a pickup truck into a crowd of people in a popular part of the city around 3:15 a.m., killing 10 people and injuring at least 35. The attacker also died.

The Mayor of New Orleans, LaToya Cantrell, stated that the city was hit by a "terrorist attack" and that she is in direct contact with the White House.

However, the FBI, which is leading the investigation, stated that this is not a "terrorist event," but "improvised explosive devices" were found, and it is being checked whether they are functional.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick stated that the pickup truck was moving at a "very high speed" and that the driver exhibited "very intentional behavior."

The driver also fired from the vehicle after the crash, wounding two police officers. Both officers are in stable condition at the hospital.
