Autoceste FBiH a good investment example

In the past four years, JP Autoceste FBiH has realized 11 highway construction projects on Corridor Vc. Currently, 102 kilometers of highway on Corridor Vc are in use, which is 35% of Corridor Vc. The following sections have been completed: Kakanj – Bilješevo, 1. mart tunnel, Drivuša – Gorica, Sarajevo sjever – Sarajevo zapad (Butila – Vlakovo), and the Sarajevo zapad - Tarčin section. In this cycle, the first kilometers of highway in the south of the country were also built, from the Međugorje interchange to the Bijača international border crossing. This section connects Bosnia and Herzegovina with the European road network, reports the Patria News Agency. 

The highway section from Svilaj to Odžak is currently under construction. In 2014, the construction of the Zenica sjever – Zenica jug section began, with domestic companies carrying out the construction and supervision.

Long-standing problems related to the Sarajevo bypass and the 1. mart tunnel have been resolved, and we finally have a trafficable section of modern highway spanning 80 kilometers. "This is another confirmation that Bosnia and Herzegovina has the knowledge and capabilities to successfully complete the most demanding and very profitable state project," stated Ensad Karić.

In 2014, the largest investment project in the recent history of our country was completed: the construction of the Sarajevo zapad – Tarčin highway section. On the highway section from Zenica to Tarčin, 19 kilometers of tunnel tubes and 16.5 kilometers of bridges and viaducts were built. The first Traffic Maintenance and Control Center Drivuša in Bosnia and Herzegovina was also built, contributing to increased traffic safety and harmonization of traffic flows.

First in investments in Bosnia and Herzegovina

In the past three years, Autoceste FBiH has invested 1.25 billion KM, which is four times more funds than in the previous 11 years.

JP Autoceste FBiH was declared the company with the largest investments in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2012 and 2013.

Highway construction is one of the largest investment cycles and one of the largest state investments in recent years. 5,000 workers and 90 domestic companies were engaged in the construction.

The profit of 63 million KM achieved by this company last year is three times higher than its expenses, which is one of the indicators for stable highway construction through the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Highways as a driver of the BiH economy

According to the Analysis of the Impact of Highways on Economic Growth prepared by the Sarajevo Economic Institute, it was determined that one convertible mark invested in highway construction generates 2.3 KM in revenue from related activities, contributing to employment growth, expansion of the construction sector, etc.

Construction costs were lower by 27 million KM, and JP Autoceste FBiH redirected these funds to the construction and rehabilitation of 100 km of regional and local roads in the areas where highway sections on Corridor Vc were being built.

New 80 kilometers of highway

"Preparations for the new investment cycle of highway construction on Corridor Vc have been completed. In 2015, construction will begin on the highway from the Međugorje interchange to Počitelj, as well as the continuation of the Zenica bypass construction. For the first time in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we are close to realizing the construction of the Žepče – Doboj jug section through a concession as a financing model for highway construction. Land expropriation for the Tarčin – Konjic section is underway," stated Karić, adding that 240 million euros have been secured in the last three years for the realization of highway construction and further development of Corridor Vc.

JP Autoceste FBiH will propose to the Government and Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina the optimization of the highway route through the Prenj mountain, which will result in savings of 300 million euros in construction costs.

In the past three years, JP Autoceste FBiH has awarded 150,000 KM in scholarships to the most talented students.

If we continue construction at this pace with a sustainable financing model, Corridor Vc through the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina could be completed by 2020, it was stated at today's annual press conference.
