Australian company developed an 'effective' nasal spray against coronavirus

(Patria) – Representatives of the Australian biotechnology company Ena Respiratory announced on Monday that they have developed a nasal spray that has shown in animal studies to significantly reduce the development of the coronavirus.

The results of the study conducted on ferrets showed that the INNA-051 spray, which could be used as a supplement to a vaccine, reduced the level of Covid-19 virus by 96%, the company claims. The research was led by the British state agency Public Health England.

Ena Respiratory claims that, depending on the results of the toxicity study and the approval of the regulatory agency, they should be ready for human testing of this product in about four months.

The company has raised about $8 million for the development of the spray, with some of the investors including the Australian federal government, the firm Brandon Capital, and the biotechnology giant CSL.

Australia records significantly fewer coronavirus infections than other developed countries – only 27,000, while the number of deaths does not exceed 875.
