Araghchi on ceasefire: The framework of our proposal has been accepted

(Patria) - The US and Iran have agreed to a two-week ceasefire during which they should reach a broader agreement to end the conflict that lasted more than a month, and Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also spoke.

As he pointed out in his statement, Pakistan played a key role as a mediator in the negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

"In response to the fraternal request of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made in his statement, and taking into account the request of the United States of America for negotiations based on their 15-point proposal, as well as the announcement by the US President about accepting the general framework of the Iranian 10-point proposal as a basis for negotiations, I hereby, on behalf of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, declare that, if attacks on Iran are stopped, our powerful armed forces will cease their defensive operations," he wrote.

He also referred to the key issue of the agreement, namely the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

"During the two-week period, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible in coordination with the armed forces of Iran and with due respect for technical limitations," Araghchi added.

This ceasefire has, at least for two weeks, halted the conflict that began with US-Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28.

The ceasefire came before the deadline set by US President Donald Trump. He announced massive attacks on energy infrastructure and other targets in Iran, and threatened that "the entire civilization will die," but Tehran and Washington ultimately managed to reach an agreement.
