Apple loses over $293 billion in market value in just a few hours

(Patria) - Apple shares fell nearly nine percent yesterday morning after investors reacted to a major tariff announcement by US President Donald Trump.

This is one of the largest daily drops in the company's value since the pandemic-stricken March 2020, erasing over $293 billion in market capitalization in just a few hours.

Apple, as well as other major technology companies - including Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Tesla, and Meta - are affected because they produce most of their devices in China, Vietnam, and India, and Trump's tariffs significantly increase the cost of their import into the US.

Meta shares fell by 8%, Amazon and Tesla by 9%, Google by 4%, and Microsoft by 3%.

Analyst Angelo Zino from CFRA Research says Apple could try to mitigate the impact by improving supply chain efficiency and sharing the cost with consumers.

However, he warns that it will be "difficult to pass on more than 5 to 10 percent of the cost increase" to the final price without a serious risk to revenue."
