Appellate Panel of the Court of BiH to decide whether to overturn the verdict in the Dženan Memić case

(Patria) - A hearing was held at the Court of BiH before the Appellate Panel of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the Prosecutor's Office of BiH presented an appeal against the first-instance verdict acquitting Zijad Mutap, Hasan Dupovac, Alisa Ramić, Josip Barić, and Muamer Ožegović of concealing evidence regarding the cause of Dženan Memić's death and the circumstances under which he sustained severe life-threatening injuries on February 8, 2016, from which he died on February 15, 2016.

Muriz Memić, Dženan Memić's father, stated that he expects the Appellate Panel to overturn the verdict.

"The Prosecutor's Office presented the truth, I have been telling the truth from the beginning. Hasan Dupovac told me on May 12, 2016, he reached into his pocket in front of his secretary, saying I brought my own money, then he was twitching, I want it to be a traffic accident so you can collect more. Collect what, I said, I don't sell my child. My first contact with the police was after the funeral. Until then, they never contacted me. This is painful to listen to. After two verdicts from the Cantonal Court and the Supreme Court, they say it's unknown, they want it to be that Dženan died in a traffic accident.

They don't understand that I want the truth about who killed my child. I'm not playing games and this is not my wish. I think the prosecutors did a good job and we trust the Appellate Panel and God. We will go to the end. Alisa knows the truth and will tell it sooner or later," said Memić.

The lawyer for the Memić family, Ifet Feraget, told reporters that six expert reports have been conducted in this case.

"Two traffic experts who determined that there was no traffic accident, two mechanical experts who determined that the damages cannot be linked to contact with a pedestrian, and two medical experts who determined that the injuries on Dženan Memić do not match those from a traffic accident," said Feraget.

He believes that the Appellate Panel should overturn the first-instance verdict, and if that happens, a new trial will be held before the Appellate Panel in a shorter form.

"This is within the jurisdiction of the State Court. Attempts were made at the entity level to cover up the murders of Dženan Memić and David Dragičević. We will not be surprised if someone is acquitted, but it is important that there is a fair trial," said Feraget.

During the address to the media, an incident occurred between Muriz Memić and Arijana Memić and Hasan Dupovac and his lawyer Ermin Gačanović, and the physical contact between Memić and Dupovac was prevented by the reaction of Davor Dragičević.
