(Patria) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that the United Nations is ready to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that the international organization previously mediated a similar agreement in the Black Sea between Moscow and Kyiv.
- My main goal is to see if it is possible to create conditions in the Strait of Hormuz similar to those that existed in the past - Guterres told Politico, adding that the UN is currently talking with Persian Gulf countries, as well as with the European Council, about the current situation.
The Black Sea Grain Initiative, an agreement reached between Moscow and Kyiv with the mediation of the UN and Turkey, enabled the export of tens of millions of tons of food from war-torn Ukraine, before Russia eventually withdrew its support.
Guterres also pointed out that the UN is actively cooperating with US President Donald Trump's Peace Committee, but that approaches led solely by the US President are not an effective way to solve serious problems.
- Everything else is now President Trump's personal project, in which he has complete control over everything - Guterres said.
When asked if he had been in contact with Trump since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran, Guterres replied: "No, no, no."
