Anto Domazet: Sarajevo to host world business elite

(Patria) - The investment conference of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which will be held in Sarajevo next week, is very significant for Bosnia and Herzegovina, said Dr. Anto
Domazet, professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Sarajevo.

"The elite of European and world business will gather there, which means we will have the opportunity to present various business opportunities, but also to be at the center of decisions made at the European and world level. Because the world and European economies are in great turmoil. Thus, the future of the world economy will be considered, whether a recession can be expected, what policies and strategies are in place to prevent such phenomena, and what BiH can do in this regard. These are indeed significant topics," says Dr. Domazet.

He points out that strategic industries, which will be the focus of the EBRD Investment Conference in Sarajevo, such as information technology (IT) and tourism, play an important role in the future development of the economy, and thus of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"These are extremely important areas for Bosnia and Herzegovina. I think we can really offer a lot there. In information technology, we have very talented people. But, if we don't create any conditions for them to stay in this country, they will be good labor in Western countries. In my opinion, the IT sector is the best model for reforms needed in Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Dr. Domazet.

He emphasized that this is primarily a reform of the school system.

"Children should be taught IT literacy from kindergarten and given access to computers, monitored as talents, and enabled to utilize their talents in further education, in high school, and then at university, with favorable start-up opportunities. They must have opportunities for all of this in Bosnia and Herzegovina," believes Dr. Domazet.

The IT business, he says, is a globalized business and it is very important that it is located in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"It has markets all over the world. So, young men and women can serve both American and Pacific markets, and that is not a problem at all," adds Dr. Domazet.

As for tourism, Dr. Domazet states, Bosnia and Herzegovina truly has constantly growing results.

We remind you that on May 7, 8, and 9 of this year, BiH will be the host country of one of the most significant events in the last twenty years, the Annual Meeting of the EBRD Board of Governors, on the occasion of which, according to estimates, our country will host more than 2,000 representatives of the international business community, investors, high government officials (EBRD governors, ministers of finance, economy, treasury or Central Bank) and representatives of civil society organizations.
