ANONYMOUS FROM CENTRAL PRISON Prison guards drunk and swaying, inmates threatened with scabies

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - After enabling citizens, border police officers and others who do not want and cannot tolerate injustice and crime to have their voice heard through our website, letters from various addresses are arriving at the newsroom of the Patria News Agency. 

Today, a letter arrived, this time somewhat specific, as it is sent by an inmate of the Central Prison in Sarajevo. 

"Dear editorial board, I am writing to you from the Central Prison. I have to say that on December 31, 2019, the prison police working the night shift were all drunk. The officers drank all night and mistreated the inmates, so there was a lot of noise and commotion. Also, the music was turned up by the police, so we did not sleep the whole night. What is happening and has been happening in the Central Prison is inhumane and unbelievable. I mean, they were all visibly drunk and were swaying, they could not stand on their feet," the letter from the anonymous inmate states.

The inmate continues: "I have seen and experienced a lot, but if anyone had told me this, I would not have believed that the police, who are supposed to maintain order in the prison, completely disrupt it all night. And the worst part is that no one from the administration bothered to wish us a Happy New Year or to address us after that night, to apologize for the unprofessional behavior and mistreatment. We are not in a camp."

"Believe me, this was worse than any camp, what happened that night. We were just waiting for the doors to open and for them to start beating all of us, one after another, without any reason. That is why we ask you to publish this, so that at least someone blushes, if they do not have the decency to apologize to us. Only you can initiate this, to find and punish the perpetrators for such behavior and for disgracing the uniform and the imprisoned people. I would also add that every day we expect someone else to get scabies, because believe me, many people are already infested with scabies in the Central Prison, and the hygienic conditions are catastrophic," the letter states.
