Survey for the Sexiest Politician Angers Women's Forum: They are successful politicians, not entertainers

Yesterday (August 26), a survey for the sexiest female politician was published on the information portal (if it can be called that) centralni.ba, as a form of relaxation in the midst of the election campaign for the SDP BiH presidential elections, the SDP announced, reports the Patria News Agency.

Readers have the opportunity to choose one of six offered young female politicians. This type of survey is completely unacceptable in the 21st century, especially considering that all these young women are educated, successful, and accomplished in their private and social lives.

When these young women were presented in the context of entertainers to the wider public, their functions and positions in society, the SDP, and beyond should have been mentioned.

Stereotypical divisions of male and female roles and assigning women the function of a diversion and entertainer are established in our media and are completely unacceptable and offensive, especially considering that numerous international conventions (CEDAW, 1979), declarations (UN Beijing Declaration, 2000), recommendations (CoE CM/REC, 2007), as well as the Constitution of BiH, the Law on Gender Equality in BiH (2003), and GAP BiH 2013-2017, require the media and other segments of society to affirm women and advocate for equality with men.

A woman has multiple roles in her life. She is a mother, a wife, but also a professor, a saleswoman, a lawyer, a cosmetologist, a doctor. She is an equal provider for her family and someone whose psychological and educational qualities cannot be reduced to such a trivial role as "beauty," "sexiest personality," etc.

In this regard, we expect the mentioned portal to remove the controversial survey and apologize to the members of the Social Democratic Party for the discriminatory and stereotypical behavior directed towards their names and personalities, the SDP statement reads.
