Poll: Far-right will not win a majority in the French parliament

(Patria) - The far-right National Rally party will not win a majority of seats in the French parliament after the second round of parliamentary elections on Sunday.

This was shown by a Harris Interactive poll, according to which the National Rally and its allies will win 190 to 220 seats. This is significantly less than the 289 seats needed for a majority in the National Assembly.

According to the poll, the left-wing coalition New Popular Front is in second place, with an expected 159 to 183 seats, while President Emmanuel Macron's centrist bloc is in third with 110 to 135 seats.

More than 200 candidates from across the political spectrum have agreed to withdraw from local electoral races to pave the way in the second round of elections for the candidate most likely to defeat the National Rally candidate in their constituency.

The National Rally party came first in the first round last Sunday, and President Macron's decision to dissolve parliament and call early elections backfired after the National Rally's great success in the European Parliament elections.

Macron's centrist bloc finished third, far behind the far-right and a hastily formed left-wing alliance.

The second round of elections will be held on Sunday, July 7.
