Poll: Harris increases lead over Trump after debate

(Patria) - US Vice President Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party leads Republican Donald Trump with 47 to 42 percent support ahead of the November 5 presidential election.

This represents an increased lead after the candidates' televised debate on Tuesday, yesterday's Reuters/Ipsos poll results showed.

The two-day poll showed Harris enjoying a five-percentage-point lead among registered voters, while the Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted between August 21 and 28 showed her leading by four percentage points.

Among voters who said they had heard at least something about Tuesday's debate, 53 percent said Harris won, and 24 percent said Trump won.

About 52 percent of respondents said Trump stumbled and did not appear skillful, while 21 percent said that about Harris.

The 59-year-old Harris challenged the 78-year-old Trump in a heated presidential debate with a series of verbal attacks, questioning his ability to be president and highlighting his numerous legal disputes.

The poll included 1,690 American adults nationwide, including 1,405 registered voters. The margin of error is about three percentage points for registered voters.

While national polls, including Reuters/Ipsos, provide important insights into voter sentiment, Electoral College results from individual states determine the winner, with several key states likely to be decisive.
