Anders Breivik: I regret the crimes I committed

(Patria) - Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik stated in court yesterday that he regrets the crimes he committed, adding that his life in prison isolation is a nightmare that causes him to think about suicide daily.

Breivik, who killed 77 people in 2011, is suing the state, claiming that his prison conditions and the ban on communication with the outside world violate his human rights.

In his bloody rampage, he first killed eight people with a car bomb, and then killed 69 participants at a youth Labour party gathering on the island of Utøya, and has been in complete isolation ever since, Reuters reminds.

- I don't believe I can survive much longer without meaningful human relationships. I am still a person, and there is a limit to what a person can endure.

Every day is a nightmare, every day I think about suicide - Breivik stated at the hearing held in a sports hall in the prison, under maximum security measures.

When asked by prosecutor Andreas Hjetland how he now views the events at Utøya, Breivik replied: "I regret what I did, I am willing to renounce politics".

Lawyers representing the Norwegian Ministry of Justice claim that Breivik must remain isolated because he still poses a security threat.
