Anđelić: Russia and China want a new world order

(Patria) - American Bloomberg assessed that US President Joe Biden will pay special attention to his colleagues from Brazil, Indonesia, and South Africa at tomorrow's G20 summit in New Delhi, in order to strengthen communication with them and do what he can, so to speak, to bring them back from the Chinese-Russian embrace. Do such assessments hold water?

Neven Anđelić, a professor of international relations, was a guest of the magazine Svijet.

He says that there is a global struggle underway to establish new relations.

"At least that's how it looks in Moscow and Beijing. They want a new world order, one that is not dominated by the West. We have an open conflict in Ukraine, but other types of non-violent conflicts are happening all over the world. We have a struggle for influence and alliances," he explained.

When asked if it is more realistic to expect a more serious change in the neutral stance of most third-world countries towards Russian aggression in Ukraine, he answers that they will expect some promises.

"Third countries primarily expect economic assistance. Their behavior after the summit in New Delhi will depend on that. That is an unknown," he said.

He states that it is important for Biden to achieve unity in the front against Russia. "To reduce Russia to as few potential allies as possible. Biden is in that position, but the question is whether he will lose support within the United States itself. If Congress turns against it, and we know that the Republican Party does not fully support all the sanctions imposed on Russia – then he will not be able to do so," he concluded.
