SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Today is a happy day for me, said Amir Agić, father of the deceased Selma Agić, for Patria after the verdict against Sanjin Sefić of 17.5 years in prison for causing a traffic accident and failing to provide assistance to persons injured in the traffic accident.
Due to the coronavirus, the verdict was not announced publicly, so he learned the news of the verdict from a Patria journalist.
"I am not satisfied with the sentence because I expected the maximum, but it turned out that if there is a will, anything is possible. Prosecutor Jasminka Knežević did her job well, and this is the highest sentence ever imposed for a traffic accident," Agić said.
He added that it was painful to go through court hearings for the past three and a half years and that their pain grew with each one.
He explained that Sefić was sentenced to 16 years for causing the traffic accident and two years for failing to provide assistance to a person injured in the accident, and was given a combined sentence of 17.5 years in prison.
Sefić, driving a Golf VI car at a speed exceeding 100 km/h, hit Selma Agić and Edita Malkoč at a pedestrian crossing, who died from their injuries. Sefić fled the scene and from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and was extradited to the BiH judiciary on January 9, 2017.
