SARAJEVO, (Patria) – After the retrial of Sanjin Sefić was concluded, which was attended by the families of the victims Selma Agić and Edita Malkoč, as every time in the past three years, Selma's father Amir Agić addressed the media. This time too, fathers of the deceased students, Amir and Enes, were supported by Muriz Memić and his daughter Arijana, the father and sister of the murdered young man Dženan Memić.
“It has been proven that he ran them over. If it were negligence, he wouldn't have been going so many kilometers per hour, he would have turned back and helped them if he had been scared. If he had wanted us not to have this pain, as he now states that he wishes it had been him instead of them, then he would have admitted guilt. He could have admitted guilt so that no one would suffer this pain that we are suffering now. We have immense pain that we will never forget,” said Agić.
The verdict will be announced on March 19th.
“Believe me, that will be the happiest day of my life. My birthday is on March 17th, the verdict will be on the 19th. That will be a gift for me, so that I no longer have to come to this city, which I cannot hate, but I cannot come to, especially because we come not knowing if there is a hearing and having to endure all of that, not to mention our children, wives, work colleagues who endure all our pain and behavior. I thank the media and prosecutors Jasminka Knežević and Adela Duraković for all this support,” said Agić.
Adela Duraković, the lawyer for the Agić and Malkoč families, commented on the conclusion of the retrial today and the request of lawyer Kerim Čelik for Sefić to be acquitted.
“There will be no acquittal, it's ridiculous to even think about it. Last time, in the previous proceedings, the speed according to expert Vujanić was accepted, so the accused was given a lighter sentence of 14.5 years, that verdict was overturned by the Supreme Court and returned for retrial. I am not just convinced, but 100 percent sure that this time the verdict will not be the same, but that a sentence will be determined in accordance with his responsibility, as potential intent, as the Prosecution has already stated,” said Duraković.
She added that the Court had two conflicting expert testimonies in the previous proceedings, and in such cases, the court rules in favor of the accused.
“This time, the court has conducted its own expert testimony by a traffic expert, which is identical in all decisive facts to the findings of the Prosecution's traffic expert. We now have two expert reports that are almost identical in decisive facts, you have other evidence such as witnesses, material evidence, so there is no theoretical chance for a lighter sentence than last time. Of course, we are seeking that, and these families have absolutely deserved it,” said Duraković.
