American Moy for Patria: Let Bosnians pray for my people

The US has declared a state of emergency due to severe weather, and as Hurricane Matthew approaches the east coast of Florida, the death toll in areas ravaged by the storm in recent days is rapidly increasing, with the official death toll in Haiti exceeding 339 people, writes the Patria News Agency.

Kat Moy, a resident of Orlando, Florida, left the endangered area on the last flight from Orlando to New York. In an interview with the Patria News Agency, she said that chaos reigns among the population and that this is the largest evacuation recorded in the history of the USA. More than two million people will leave their homes.

Moy lived in Bosnia and Herzegovina for five years, where she worked in the non-governmental sector.

- Everyone near the coast must leave their homes. People are panicking and protecting their homes with sandbags. There are also those who are staying in their homes and they have literally bought everything available in the stores. It is currently almost impossible to find food and water to buy. Also, people are buying generators in case of power outages - says Moy, adding that she boarded the last flight from Orlando.

Given that Matthew's strength is not waning and it is still a very dangerous Category 4 hurricane, experts predict that it could take weeks, even months, before people from the most endangered areas can return to their homes.

- I ask all of you to pray for my people. I lived in your country and I know what a cheerful and God-fearing people you are, and we now need the prayers of the whole world. This natural disaster is unprecedented and everything looks like a movie, only unfortunately it is all real - added Moy.

With wind gusts of up to 215 kilometers per hour, meteorologists predict that the greatest damage will be caused by the storm surge, which they estimate will reach a height of three meters, and the height of the waves in the storm-affected areas could be over seven meters.
