Americans in fear: Russians building their own military base in Syria

Russia is building a military base in Syria and has already installed an air traffic control tower and transported enough material to form a base for a thousand people, Telegraph reports the words of an American intelligence officer, and this is considered the best proof that Russia is determined to help the regime of Bashar al-Assad, reports the Patria News Agency.

If this proves to be true, it will further escalate relations between Moscow and Washington, who, as is known, do not get along well when it comes to their approach to the situation in Syria.

Thus, last Friday, Barack Obama met with King Salman of Saudi Arabia, where the previously known stance that Bashar al-Assad's regime must fall was reiterated, which is a completely opposite view to that held by Russia.

Secretary of State John Kerry spoke by phone with his Russian counterpart, expressing concern about what he was hearing.

"We have made it clear that, if what we are hearing is true, it could lead to an escalation of violence, which will lead to more lost lives and an increase in the number of refugees," said the office of the Secretary of State.

News that Russia has great ambitions in Syria comes a few days after it was announced that Russia would financially and militarily assist the ruling regime. Although Putin said it was too early to talk about direct intervention, images from the ground suggest otherwise. Namely, several videos that have appeared in recent days show soldiers in Syria speaking Russian, writes Index.
