America Warns Russia: Stay Out of Syria!

One of the most important American diplomats warned Moscow that a military presence in Syria could intensify the bloody conflict that has been tearing the region apart for over four years, writes CNN, reports the Patria News Agency.

The US has been monitoring the movements of the Russian military for several days, the ministry confirmed. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that Russian troops are in Syria, but that they are only training Syrians on how to use military weapons and systems.

Americans are concerned that Russia's presence in Syria will increase tensions and cause even greater violence and instability in that country, said State Department spokesperson John Kirby. Meanwhile, America is helping Syrian rebels in their fight against the Islamic State, although they are also trying to oust al-Assad.

US officials are still trying to assess the real motive behind Russia's movements in Syria, but claim it could be preparations for an attack on ISIL or a more likely scenario - an attack on rebels fighting against the Syrian army.

There is also a possibility that Russia is trying to control what happens in Syria, if and when al-Assad falls. The US will continue to pressure and seek answers, but for now, Russia has not provided a clear answer about its intentions in Syria, writes Index.
